Vinay Sharma

Born in 1965 at Jaipur, Vinay Sharma studied Painting at the Rajasthan College of Arts in Jaipur, before going to Liverpool University in England as an exchange student and subsequently obtaining a Post Graduate Degree in Graphics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University at Baroda. A printmaker, graphic artist and painter, Vinay Sharma’s art is reflective of his exposure since childhood to the festivities and colours of Rajasthan, and the rituals and astrology that his father and grandfather practiced. The multi-layered images that he creates using a variety of symbols, mediums, and material, collected from his own family archives, combine his ancestors’ work with his own. The spectacular imagery includes a series depicting different zodiac signs and works incorporating antique iconic symbols. His earlier repertoire focused on printmaking, though his interest is now veering towards painting and experimenting with mix media art in creating imagery and installations that link the past with the present. Recipient of several awards, Vinay, who works at the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Academy and earlier at Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, is also a skillful exhibition organizer and cultural enabler who has been very supportive of artists visiting Rajasthan from other parts of India and abroad. He has hosted several international artists’ camps in Jaipur and his work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in different Indian cities and abroad from where it has been picked up by private and corporate collectors. Vinay lives and works in Jaipur.
