Sarla Chandra

Born in 1943, Sarla Chandra is a postgraduate in Science from St. John’s College, Agra. A self-trained artist, she has been painting for over four decades now. Inspired by Indian mythology and scriptures, her art engages with subjects themed around Indian philosophy and spirituality. The subjects and religious icons, along with elements from nature and landscape, assume a meditative streak and get manifested in her colourful works on canvas, paper and board. She has had several solo and group shows in India and abroad, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Goa, Jamshedpur, New York, California, San Francisco, London, Washington D.C. and Melbourne. Her work has been documented in an illustrated book published in 2011. Sarla lives in Delhi and works from her studio at home.
