I Wayan Karta also known as Gaura Nataraja Das, born in 1961 in Padangtegal, Ubud, started to train as a painter at the tender age of seven. Two of Balinese famous artists- I Nyoman Madya and I Wayan Atjin Tisna were his teachers and mentors. A multitalented artist he also learnt traditional music from his father I Ketut Genjet and dance from Pandita Empu Acarya Daksa. A graduate from the Indonesian Art Institute at Denpasar, he has been practicing art, while also working as a Cultural Arts teacher in the city. His compositions are colourful and rotate around mythology and folklore.
