Niren Sengupta

Born in 1940, artist-cum-art-educator Niren Sengupta, retired as the Principal of College of Art, Delhi. A product of Kolkata’s Government College of Art & Craft, Niren Sengupta created his own brand, in a spiritual realm focusing mostly on Buddhist legends. Imbued with a sculptural style, the artist seems to chisel the faces with lines and colours while the rest of the space is filled with geometrically oriented objects in a contrasting mode and in separating hues that define the form. A prolific artist, he has experimented with various color orientations, including the purity of white. Niren Sengupta’s works are held in prestigious individual and institutional collections including that of the Prime Minister of Japan, and the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi. He has curated several art shows, and his work has featured in numerous exhibitions all over the country. Awards to his credit include the AIFACS Award, Mahakoshal Award (Bhopal), and NBT Award, New Delhi. Niren Sengupta lives and works in Delhi.
