P. Gowraiah

Born in 1950, Gowraiah P started to assist his father in traditional carpentry work at a very early age. An opportunity to learn under the tutelage of Late Mir Shoukat, helped hone his skills further in the craft of wooden inlay work. To equip himself with both the practical and theoretical knowledge of designing, he joined the famous Sri Chamarajendra Technical Institute and studied there for five years. Aided with technical and design skills, combined with commercial acumen, he began to work on a variety of traditional temple motifs with diversified Moghul and Persian designs. His inlay work stands apart for its unique designs and brilliant workmanship. Exhibited extensively, his work was adjudged meritorious for the state award. His contribution to the crafts industry is appreciated as he trains and employs many craftsmen in his workshop.
