Radha Gomaty

Born in 1968 at Kochi, Radha Gomaty received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts – Painting from Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University, Baroda, attended the Foundation Programme at NID, Ahmedabad, followed by research experience in Philosophy and then a postgraduate course in History of Art from Viswabharathi University, Santhiniketan. Starting her career as a member of the Indian Radical Sculptors and Painters, Radha, who also writes poetry, works in a range of media, including photography and video, besides painting and sculpture. In a mix of natural and other material, most of her art is layered and conceptual – mythic in nature and classical in approach. The multimedia works in this collection are the outcome of a yearlong research project based on travels down the River Ganga, from its source to the sea, which she undertook with two other artists Shantamani Muddaiah and Koumudi Patil. The resulting work was showcased at the IGNCA in Delhi. The artist has had varied experience in media and teaching. Her poetry has been published in two collections and text and form are seen to coalesce in some of her work. Exhibited in solo and group shows in different Indian cities, her art has won her awards from the Kerala Lalit Kala Academy, besides others. Radha lives and works in Kochi.
