R.G. Gowd

RG Gowd full name Rayana Giridhar Gowd, born in 1965 at Gudavalli in Andhra Pradesh has a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from Chama Rajendra Academy of Visual Arts in Mysore. He learnt mural painting, fresco, and tempera techniques during his training at Banasthal Vidyapith in Tonk, Rajasthan and followed it up with a Master’s Degree in painting from MS University in Baroda. The expertise in varied media is reflected in RG Gowd’s finely executed work. inspired by his studies of Indian scriptures, he creates imagery dense in forms and ideas using earth pigments and gold on handmade paper the bestows a luster to his paintings. His art is a reminiscent of vintage portraits of Hindu gods and goddesses, glossy and eventful. Three of his paintings depict ‘Generation’, ‘Destruction’ and ‘Organization’ in a lucid fashion. The artist’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows all over India and in Singapore and he has participated in many camps and workshops. Fellowships and awards to his credit include those given by Kanoria Art Centre, Chitra Kala Parishad, and Nagarjuna University amongst others. His work is held in the collections at National Gallery of Modern Arts, New Delhi, and Sri Jagadish Mittal Museum at Hyderabad, besides others. He lives and works from his base at Garuvupalem in Gunter, Andhra Pradesh.
