Prem Chand

Prem Chand was given the status of state artist by his highness the king of Jhalawar, in Udaipur region. Elder brother of Dwarka Lal, he hailed from a family of artists and worked in a group headed by Ghasi Ram. He is especially known for his execution of the Garh Mahal painting in oil and tempera that he did for the king, besides other fine paintings. Though no longer alive Prem Chand lives through a large body of his own work as well as what his family and students continue to produce under the banner of Prem Chand Studio that he had set up.
