Born in 1977 at Khasaposak in Orissa, Narayan Das is a Pattachitra artist who learnt to paint from his elders as a young child. He makes etchings on palm leaf and paints on canvas and cloth, including Tussar silk, as well as other handicraft objects. There is an abundance of religious figuration and narratives featuring episodes from Ramayana and Mahabharata, amongst others, in this prolific artist’s repertoire. Besides creating his own art, Narayan also helps and promotes the work of other artists in his village. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and his work has featured in several books. Winner of the National and State Awards, he has given lecture-demonstrations at galleries and institutions in India and in America. The artist is based in a village near Bhubaneswar and works from his home there.
