Born in 1978 at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Dhara Mehrotra passed her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Art from College of Art in Delhi. Inspired by nature and seeped in spirituality, her compositions appear in a mystical realist genre. Making frequent use of paradoxical phraseology, she juxtaposes the metaphysical with the familiar, to elevate the mundane onto a sublime sphere. Nature and the world around, woven together as a single living entity, feature in her imagery with a range of material such as waste fabric. The kitschy effect is built with silver and gold glitter pens, readymade craft stamps and acrylic to give her work its distinct oeuvre. Winner of the Swapan Biswas Award for academic excellence when still at college, the young artist has been a part of several national and international exhibitions at Delhi, Bhopal, and Dubai amongst others and her work is held in some private collections. Dhara lives and works in the vicinity of Delhi.
