Born in 1970 at Delhi, Jai Prakash is a self-taught artist who began to paint at the age of six under the guidance of his father Maliram. The artist is adept in several schools and styles of Indian miniature painting including Kangra, Guler, Basohli, Malwa, and Bundi. Well conversant with the peculiarities of various painting styles, Jai Prakash has also discovered and revived the practice of using mineral colours, beetle wings, and making various types of brushes. Instead of copying the traditional style, he has successfully used the techniques and ethos to create original compositions reflecting his personal style. The artist has executed several commissions and restoration works for private as well as government organisations and has participated in several exhibitions.
