Born in 1970 at Madhubani in Bihar, Sudha Devi belongs to a village called Rajnagar and has been working as a painter of traditional Mithila paintings for the last 25 years. Taking forward the traditional art learnt from her mother, Sudha Devi now combines her traditional skills with new techniques and designs, and creates artworks that have a contemporary feel and sensibility. Given her background – she comes from a farming community – her work often includes scenes of harvesting and planting, besides local deities and festivities.
