Chhotu Lal

Born 1957, at Udaipur Chhotu Lal did his graduation and post-graduation in drawing & painting from the University of Udaipur and received a gold medal for his MA Final. He also learnt traditional Indian miniature techniques and has adapted it to suit his own style featuring a more contemporary imagery. He integrates symbols and signs of life, as it exists today within his renderings of mythological stories and religious icons. Most of his paintings come in small size and opaque watercolours on paper. His pigments are all home made with mineral and vegetal extracts and the brushes from bird feathers. These endow his compositions that entail an interesting mix of the old and new in the imagery, a distinct luster and appeal. Chhotulal has participated is several exhibitions at Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jaipur, Delhi, Kolkata, Bhopal, Raipur, and Nagpur besides some international expositions. His work is held in several private and public collections in India and abroad including the Jawahar Kala Kendra Jaipur and Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal amongst others.
