Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar

Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, born in 1968 at Delhi, is an acclaimed Dhrupad singer and represents the twentieth generation of musicians of the renowned Dagar family. A multi-talented personality, his interests and talents extend to include work in calligraphy and poetry. Influenced by his spiritual guru, the great Arabic calligrapher, late Hazrat Amir Abdullah Khan (Mastaan Baba), he engaged in calligraphic art and that has helped Wasifuddin to develop a better understanding of poetry in his own music. His work features the beauty of letters and motifs inscribed in a fine hand. His calligraphic art, on paper with lines, forms and textures evokes names of Om, Swastik and Ganesh alongside Allah and the Prophet Mohammad. It has been exhibited at the International Sacred Arts Festival in Delhi and at the Qalam Aatma Festival in Jaipur amongst others. Recipient of Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, Wasifuddin, who travels around the world for his concerts, is based in Delhi and his artwork has found its way in private collection across India and in Europe.
